Training: Lean Healthcare
On July 17 and 18, about 20 staff members of J Watumull Global Hospital & Research Centre participated in a two-day training programme on Lean Healthcare conducted by H T Mehta, joint general manager and Sharad K Talvalkar, deputy general manager - strategic initiatives, Larson & Toubro Limited's Electrical & Electronics Division.
Lean Healthcare is a learning system that teaches problem-solving skills. Lean Thinking, the conceptual basis of Lean Healthcare, proposes that every activity be viewed as Value Added (VA) or Non-Value Added (NVA) with respect to providing value to the patient. For instance, patient waiting time is NVA and nurses searching for suppies are NVA. Every NVA is seen as waste. Lean Healthcare uses a structured process to identify and eliminate wate in every hospital work processes. Participating staff learned to apply lean tools. A follow-up session will be held on August 5.
