Conference participation

Senior consultant neuropsychiatrist Dr Nikhil Patel participated in the Annual National Conference of the Indian Psychiatric Society (ANCIPS) held at Kochi between January 19 and 22. This year, the conference theme was Psychiatry: Mysteries to Molecules. He chaired a symposium on Forensic Psychiatry - Matrimonial Relief for Persons with Mental Illness. Dr Patel was also a panelist in the symposium Guidelines for Marriage & Mental Health Issues in Women.

Visit to USA

The American Society of Addiction Medicine invited senior consultant and head, Department of Neuropsychiatry & Deaddiction, Dr Nikhil Patel as guest speaker for their annual conference held in Washington, DC, from April 14 to 17.Dr Patel spoke about Integration of Indian Culture, Yoga & Meditation in Addiction Management during the international symposium on April 15. His 30 minute talk was followed by a Q/A session. The three other speakers at the international symposium were from Brazil, Finland, and Holland.During his fortnights stay in USA, Dr Patel also addressed several gatherings on subjects like holistic health, stress management, and spirituality and mental health. Dr Patel also had an action-packed five day visit to Bogota, Columbia, where his radio and TV interviews, press conferences, and lectures in a medical college, hospital and university were well received.

Special appointments

Consultant neuropsychiatrist Dr Nikhil Patel has been appointed as an examiner for the MD/Diploma (Psychiatry) exam conducted by S N Medical College, Jodhpur, for the academic year 2001-12. Dr Patel has also been nominated convenor of a special committee on Spirituality & Mental Health, formed by the Indian Association of Private Psychiatry (IAPP) for the year 2011-12.

Lectures by Neuropsychiatrist

Consultant neuropsychiatrist Dr Nikhil Patel was invited to deliver lectures to more than 100 trainees attending at a course at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)'s Internal Security Academy (ISA) at Mount Abu. Dr Patel addressed the trainees on Counselling and Self Development and Counselling, Mentoring & Facilitation on May 26 and July 10 respectively.

Health Awareness Drive for Drivers

On January 8, in association with the Lions Club of Mount Abu and the local traffic police, Global Hospital arranged a health check-up cum awareness drive for drivers of jeeps, the local mode of transportation for tourists to the hill station. The drivers underwent blood pressure and diabetes checks. Consultant neuropsychiatrist Dr Nikhil Patel also addressed the drivers on the need and means to stay stress-free by managing anger and avoiding the temptations of drug abuse. Sister Shivali, senior assistant - purchase & claims, shared information on medical insurance policies.
